Sermon - In the hammock
How do you talk about love when there's so much heartache out there? After trying and trying to come with something about love and the gushy way it makes us all feel, I finally gave up. Instead, our scripture lesson from Deuteronomy asks us to think of Life and Death, and urges us to choose life. Rather than thinking of Valentines as a short term immediate kind of love, perhaps today we are to yearn for a long term kind of love to properly address all this heartache that's out there!
God's blessings be with you all!
The news of violence against the Muslim community in Quebec City was heart wrenching to hear and has frightened many Canadian Muslims. It has also shed light on many negative things Canadian Muslim experience on a regular basis. When we shed light on darkness as the prophet Isaiah writes, it might mean we have to deal with the mess that's been building in the darkness. Christ has answers, but first asks us to examine what we find when we shine love's light on this atrocity. (Matthew 5:13-20)
