On this Advent Sundayof Love - Mary and Elizabeth connect and are a presence of love for one another in a world where the social rules around them would otherwise thrust shame upon them. (Luke 1: 39-45) In Queen and David Bowie's song, Under Pressure, we're told to listen to how, 'Love dares us to change our ways of caring about ourselves." The same wisdom is offered by Amy Silverman in her piece from CBC's Tapestery, entitled "Lessons in love form my child with Down syndrome." That can be listened to by following this link. On this Sunday Advent of Peace- John the Baptist is the voice from the wildreness preaching a message of Baptism of Repentance. (Luke 3:1-6) Recently we had Children's Play Therapist, Tonia Crittenden, talk to parents and grandparents about how through play, we can hit a 'Re-Set' button on our extreme emotion. Taking away the extreme negative emotions with play leaves a sense of peace. A message not so far off the message of John the Baptist.
On this Sunday Advent of Hope - Jesus says in scripture, "34 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with .. the anxieties of life" (Luke 21:25-36 NIV) Recently we had Children's Play Therapist, Tonia Crittenden, talk to parents and grandparents about childhood anxiety. Her message was very similar to Jesus'... Don't be afraid of anxiety.
