Sermon March 16, 2014 - Shifting To God's Truth

3/16/2014

On this second Sunday of Lent, the scripture lesson is the story of Adam and Eve being tempted by the serpent. (Gen 2:15-17; 3:1-7)  In it, the Serpent has one truth and God has another.  The Serpent says, the fruit of knowledge of good and evil won't kill them, God says it will.  The Serpant says eating will open their eyes, God says it'll end their life.  Who's truth is right?  Are both God and the Serpent telling partial truths?  I hope you enjoy this and God bless you this Lent!

Hey Rev. Doug,

I really enjoyed listening to this sermon. As far as I know the story of Eve and Adam is mentioned in all of the sacred books with some variations in details (for instance, Quran says that Satan tempted Eve and Adam to eat from forbidden fruit...) I heard from both Christians and Muslim scholars that forbidden fruit is the symbol of wisdom and God wanted to indirectly encourage Eve and Adam that they go and eat from that fruit... I am wondering if it is possible that you also mention about the meaning/purpose of life and also creation in your sermon or not?

Sincerely,
Seyyed
