Kintore Chalmers United Church Staff
Welcome Rev. Pirie Mitchell back to Kintore Chalmers United Church.
Pirie Mitchell has a few years of age on him. He was born in 1941 in Montreal. (to save you the math he’s 82 years old) He has a sister and brother who are still very much alive and living in Ottawa and Montreal. Sadly, his sister Daryl died a number of years ago. Pirie attended Concordia University in Montreal where he obtained an honours BA degree in Historical Geography (1966). He has a Diploma of Education and a Masters degree in Education from Althouse College (Western University). He earned a Master’s degree in Divinity from Emmanuel College in Toronto. He has also earned a Doctorate of Ministry degree from the Chicago Theological Seminary. Pirie has ministered At Union Church, Hensall United Church, Colborn United Church (London), St Marys United Church, Avondale United Church (Stratford) and Palmerston United Church. He has been a minister since 1993 to today. Pirie has had a long association with Kintore. He moved into a “fixer-upper” on the 11th Concession in the early 70s. That was where he married Ellen Rottermund and where their two children, Alison and Stephen’ were born. Needing special education for their children the Mitchell family moved to Parkhill while Alison was in grade 3 and Stephen in grade 2. Ellen passed away in 1998 in Parkhill. Twenty years ago, Ruth Mardlin, from Granton, and Pirie were married. Ruth has three children: Bryan, Kayla and Lauren and between them they have produced 6 grandchildren. This blended family has worked very well. At 82 Pirie is looking forward to ministering to the needs of Chalmers United Church. He is one of the few Historical Jesus scholars in Ontario. Keeping up to date is important for Pirie and he has signed up for a course “Preaching the Parables” at Huron College. To contact Pirie, he can meet you in the Chalmers’ sanctuary Sunday morning at 11am. His phone number in St Marys is either 519 284 4320 or 519 639 0978. |
Meet Doctor Edgar Suski: Chalmers United Church is fortunate to have Edgar Suski as our Minister of Music. He completed his Bachelor of Music and Masters degrees in piano performance at Western University. He now has a Ph.D. in composition at Western University. Edgar has enjoyed participating in music workshops in Canada and abroad, and holds a diploma from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, Poland. While a student, he has frequently been asked to play in masterclasses, most notably for Dang Thai Son, laureate of the first prize in the Xth International Chopin Competition. In the winter of 2011 Edgar won the opportunity to perform Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G with the UWO Symphony Orchestra. Edgar is excited to begin his tenure as Music Director, and believes he will learn a lot from his experiences with the wonderful community at Chalmer’s United Church.
Administrative Assistant Kay Calvin
I have been attending Chalmers and singing in the choir since 1980. Although I grew up as an Anglican, this church has certainly become my home.
I am a chemist by education, but interestingly enough, that profession requires outstanding organizational skills, time management and computer expertise. I bring all of these skills to the position of Admin Assistant.
I actually enjoy organizing and creating PowerPoint presentations. It allows me to use my creative side. I have recently retired and look forward to being part of the ministry team at Chalmers.

Church Treasurer Marg Ogar
For as long as I can remember, I have been involved in the work and life of Chalmers United Church. My family have been connected for generations and their hands did lots of work for the community that Chalmers serves. I am a member of the choir, and have been actively involved in the Sunday school in past years. More recently I took over the role of our church treasurer. I have a passion and skill for book work and try to faithfully attend our meetings to keep everyone posted on how we are doing financially.
